Our Story

The youth had a dream of building a home within a home at the ADAMS Center.

The goal was to develop a safe, cool space for fostering youth connections, collaboration, and bonding.  After surveys and focus groups with the youth, they voted to develop their 900 square foot space into a café and lounge space, named Qahwa.

The youth have dedicated themselves to every step of this process with special support from adult mentors. They’ve learned to budget, reserving their funds and prioritizing the most important aspects within the café. They learned about architecture and design, laying out the space in the most efficient way, and picking the right finishes that achieve their design goals. They are learning about branding and marketing as they have created a name, logo and brand for their coffee shop. They proved their work ethic and collaborated as a united team, spending countless volunteer hours to make this dream a reality.

Qahwa is proud to be opening its doors to our congregation and guests. The space includes a fully loaded coffeeshop, managed by our very own Naeem Muhammad and serving only the best - our beans are roasted by Ceremony Coffee - a giant in the specialty coffee scene. Our specialty food items are sourced from specialty small businesses including Mozaic Kitchen, a refugee non-profit culinary program, Zaynab’s Cookies and Dana’s Creative Kitchen. The other part of the space is a cool, and vibrant lounge area designed to support hours of studying, hanging out or meeting up with friends, family or business associates while maintaining an aesthetic worthy of anyone's Instagram.

We pray that the café will serve the community and foster a safe and Islamic environment for youth to hang out, take classes, and build bonds within the masjid that will last a lifetime.
